Are You A Referrals Worse Nightmare?

Suppose you saw an ad for a great job you have always wanted. You draw up what you hope is a professional resume complete with a covering letter, send it off and wait. And wait. And wait.  You will probably not get the job.

Supposing you decide to write a follow up thank you letter to this exciting prospective company telling them all about your background in some relative field to what they advertised for.  That added to your resume and covering letter can make all the difference to the person who has to decide who to hire and on what grounds. You might head the list and get the job.

Changing Roles

You own the business.  You advertise for subscribers and in come the applications – now what will you do with each one?

They all happily joined up and you accepted them to your team.

Whatever their reason for joining you specifically, they do not have a clue if they are in the right place nor in too many cases, do they have a clue as to what order they need to be activating their account with you or the actions they need to take period.

Unique Opportunity and instructions

Your opportunity [job] may or may not appear unique to them.  Without some connection and instructions, they are left to determine if they really want the job at all.

In fact, they are not at all sure who the heck you are and what role you will play, if any in their use of your opportunity.  Not good.

Failure to follow up is an almost 100% guarantee you will lose this subscriber.

The saddest part is 90% of business owners/marketers don’t do any follow up.

Are you sure, you are on line to create a profitable future?  Consistent follow-up creates a predictable and profitable stream of prospects who become consumers who buy.

If simple affiliation is your game then you choose one-off opportunity.   They either do or don’t and you have no further connection with prospects.

If your future is about conversions and profitable sales, then you better make the time to do a lot of follow up AND get the systems in place to do it.

  1. So true Fran. Some people do not even know how to open their NotePad.
    It makes me feel very bad when people come on line to earn money and not know how to protect themselves or advertise. I have seen time and time again.

    Well, I just went for this job interview with a terrific company I’ve been wanting to work for and they sure seemed to like me. I go home and wait, wait, wait but I don’t hear from them. I decided to call and find out what has happened. Sir, I wanted to find out if I got that job or not. I’ve been waiting for your call. (No job here with that attitude as no one has to give you a job)

    The same company, same interview. I think I will write them a short note and tell them how much I appreciate the time they gave me and that I would like an opportunity to show them what I can do. After another interview in which they called you because of the reminder, you are hired! It doesn’t take much but just make sure to send the letters, thank you notes, whatever the case may be. The more active we are, the better we show that we can do it, the more we are rewarded.
